My first Project
was a million pounds property development before I completed my academic studies as an Architect and become a member of RIBA ( Royal Institute of British Architects).
The project was the conversion of two large adjacent Victorian buildings into 20 Luxury apartments with an impressive landscaped gardens. The apartments in Wells Road, Malvern Wells, Worcestershire ranged from 1 to 4 bedrooms and are priced at the upper end of the scale. Despite the high prices, and because of the high quality of theses apartments and their desirable location, I secured 4 buyers well before they were completed. One buyer actually purchased 2 adjoining flats and asked me to design one luxury flat out of them. The project was finished in record time. I took responsibility for both designing and converting and supervised every aspect of the project's progress from initial site survey to finishings to marketing and selling.
One of the biggest challenges facing any developer, particularly one having to convert Victorian, Malvern Stone buildings, must be the planning requirements and procedures the architects and the builders. This was compounded in this project due to the sensitivity of Malvern Council to the area's development particularly one involving converting 2 properties into 20 dwellings despite the large size of the buildings. Despite some worries by the council and some locals at first, But my plans and overall vision with the complete sympathy with the local environment caused a change in their attitude and in fact many applauded my designs and the finished conversion.
